Blueberries

Blueberries are small, marble-sized berries, with smooth skin ranging in colour from dark navy to blue-black. Their skin is covered in a fine white powder or ‘bloom’. Available from November through to March, blueberries have a sweet flavour that’s delicious in cakes, muffins, tarts, salads, sauces and jams.

To Buy

Look for firm, plump blueberries with dark blue skin. Avoid blueberries that feel soft or look wrinkled.

To Store

Once home, remove blueberries from their punnet and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Cover with plastic wrap and store in the fridge until ready to eat or cook with. Stored in this way, blueberries should be okay for 3 to 5 days

To Prepare

Blueberries require no preparation. If they have been stored in the fridge, remove 30 minutes before using. Their flavour will be heightened when at room temperature
