Honeydew melons have a sweet and refreshing flavour that’s great for cool desserts. They are smooth-skinned, round melons, with relatively thin but firm skin. Honeydews are white to yellow in colour, with pale to mid-green flesh and white seeds in their centre. Their refreshing flavours are best enjoyed fresh. Available all year round, honeydew melons are delicious on their own, or used in salads, sorbets and drinks.
To Buy
Look for Honeydew melons with hard skins. They should feel relatively heavy for their size, with a pleasant aroma.
To Store
Store whole Honeydew melons at room temperature for up to 1 week. Once cut, wrap in plastic and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
To Prepare
Cut a honeydew melon in half then use a large spoon to scoop out and discard the seeds. Place melon halves onto a chopping board, cut-side down, and either cut into wedges or use a sharp knife to peel away the skin. Dice or slice as required, or use a melon baller to scoop small balls from the flesh.
Honeydew melons are an excellent source of vitamin C. Among other benefits, this vitamin works in the body to help heal wounds, as well as helping to maintain a healthy immune system.
