Rockmelons

Rockmelons have a distinctive sweet tropical flavour that immediately transports your taste buds. They’re round to oval-shaped melons, with firm skin that ranges in colour from grayish-green to cream. Their skin is quite rough in texture, with pronounced scaly ‘netting’ all over it. Inside, rockmelons have moist and sweet apricot coloured flesh, with white seeds in their centres. Available all year round, rockmelons are delicious eaten fresh from store on their own, or added to salads

To Buy

Look for sweet-smelling rockmelons, with pronounced texture on their skins. They should feel relatively heavy for their size, with no noticeably soft or bruised patches.

To Store

Store whole rockmelons at room temperature for up to 1 week. Once cut, wrap in plastic and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.

To Prepare

Cut a rockmelon in half then use a large spoon to scoop out and discard the seeds. Place melon halves onto a chopping board, cut-side down, and either cut into wedges or use a sharp knife to peel away the skin. Dice or slice as required.
