Seedless watermelon were developed by crossing different varieties of regular watermelon. They have the same skin colour, flesh and flavour as regular watermelon. Where they differ is in their seed content. Seedless watermelon contain very few seeds, and those they do contain are small, immature edible seeds – no black seeds. Available all year round, seedless watermelon are good enjoyed fresh from store, added to salads or used to make drinks.
To Buy
Look for seedless watermelon with firm, smooth skin. They should feel relatively heavy for their size, and if tapped lightly should sound hollow.
To Store
Store whole seedless watermelon at room temperature for up to 1 week. Once cut, wrap in plastic and store in the fridge for up to 3 days
To Prepare
Cut seedless watermelon into wedges and enjoy straight from the skin, or cut in half then peel away the skin and slice or dice as required.
