Yellow grapefruit are a member of the citrus family. They are almost round in shape, with a slightly flat base. Their skin is thin and yellow, and the flesh inside is divided into segments by thin white membranes. Yellow grapefruit flesh is juicy, with a distinctive tart taste. Available all year round, yellow grapefruit are great eaten fresh on their own, or in salads and drinks. They can also be used in cooking, to make marmalades or desserts.

Look for grapefruit that feel relatively heavy for their size, with shiny yellow skin. Avoid very soft grapefruit, or those with slightly wrinkled skin.

Store grapefruit at room temperature for up to 7 days, or store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
To Prepare
Halve grapefruit then either juice or use a small sharp knife to cut between the flesh and white membrane, so that the fruit segments can be lifted out easily to eat.
