Perishable

Keeping the food safe is our full time job.

Questions might popped in your mind when you choose food items in a supermarket. Are those foods being checked thoroughly for hygiene? Are they completely safe and consumable?

Operating under PT. Supra Boga Lestari (SBL), Ranch Market was initially started in 1997 as a franchise unit of Ranch Market USA. As a specialty store aimed at expats and upper middle class consumers, we provide only the best quality products for both local and imported. We also provide perishable and healthy-lifestyle products such as organic products or food for those who has special conditions like diabetic, heart disease, or autism.

To support our commitment in providing fresh, safe and healthy foods, since 2003 we apply International Food Safety Standards by HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and ISO 9001 Quality Management System, certified by SAI – Global (formerly QAS), a certification foundation from Australia. In 2009, Ranch Market raised its foods standard even further by implementing the ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System, also certified by SAI – Global, through meticulous audits conducted by a food safety auditor from Australia.

To meet these high standards of food safety excellence, our internal team was needed to document all operating procedures, working instructions and other standard guides required by ISO 22000. It includes product quality, food safety, employee training & know-how and hygiene practices within facilities and on equipment used to produce food products. In addition, all products received from suppliers must go through strict checking in terms of quality and safety. The checking includes independent laboratory tests for E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria Monocytogenes, pesticide residues, formaldehyde and other hazardous chemicals. Such tests are especially important for fresh food items that have high risk or are intended for children/babies, such as fresh fish, meat tofu, organic vegetable and fruit.

In stores our Quality Assurance (QA) team is taking random samples of products and send them for a laboratory testing. When the result’s not good, related products will be immediately withdrawn and destroyed. We will then discuss about ways of improving product quality with the suppliers. The QA team also conducts periodic checks on supplier’s warehouses and factories to ensure product consistency. Everyday tools that come into contact with perishable products, such as knives, cutting boards and containers are regularly swab-tested and sent to laboratory to cross contamination tests.

Storing processes are monitored to make sure the storage room is at the correct temperature for the chilled or frozen items. Employees who handle fresh foods undergo regular health checks to ensure they are not contaminating the food products. Every store employees went through a comprehensive health screening to check for infectious diseases such as TBC, typhoid and others. Every process conducted by the management is to ensure that the products in all of our stores are safe to be consumed by customers.
